Every hotel tells a story. Each one holds its secrets. But in this chilling choose-your-own-adventure nightmare… is it finally time to check out?

You begin with a tale of an old hotel, one known for its strangest guests. Guests who were, in fact… dead. A hotel so infamous that stories have been written about it and films inspired by it.

It’s one of the last surviving haunted hotels. The others? Slowly shuttered after a series of unexplained disappearances.

A folded newspaper clipping is placed on the table.

A small stack of souvenir postcards is introduced, held face-down so the designs remain unseen.

“These postcards come from some rather interesting hotels across the USA. I’m not going to show them to you yet. First, we’re going to take a very peculiar journey together, a choose-your-own adventure.”

The spectator closes their eyes and imagines walking alone down the fourth-floor hallway of a deserted old hotel.

Suddenly, a noise. They turn.

Was it the hotel cat jumping from a side table…
…or something not of this world knocking over a vase of flowers, shattering it?

Whatever they decide, they spell their answer, moving one postcard to the bottom of the stack for each letter.

They continue.

Reaching their room, they place the key in the lock. As the door opens a crack, another sound emerges from inside.

Is it a bang… or a dragging?

Again, they spell their choice.

Overcome with fear, they slam the door shut. Now they must decide:

Do they leave the hotel… or call reception for help?

Their final choice is spelled out, bringing one last postcard to the top of the pile.

You remind them:

“I placed this newspaper clipping on the table before your journey began. Had you made different decisions, taken a different path, you would have ended on a different postcard entirely.”

They turn over the top postcard.
It’s The Stanley Hotel.

The newspaper clipping is unfolded, revealing a story about the very same hotel. The Stanley Hotel famously inspired The Shining after Stephen King experienced a terrifying dream during his stay.

“And it’s one of the last haunted hotels still open. The others were closed after strange deaths and disappearances. Turn over the rest…”

The remaining postcards are flipped, each depicting a different hotel, every one stamped boldly with CLOSED.
